Rolled out as a 2022 model alongside sweeping exterior and interior upgrades for a mid-cycle refresh, our 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X is a new model which sets the bar for off-road capability in the GMC lineup. AT4X is more upscale than many other pickups in the segment and borrows a lot of luxuries from the Denali. The interior received the biggest updates with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 13.4-inch center infotainment screen powered by Google, and a whopping 15-inch color Head-Up Display.
The interior of this pickup is the epitome of off-road luxury thanks to the heated and ventilated 16-way power front seats with massage and driver seat memory settings. The seats are also covered in Obsidian Rush full-grain leather with technical-grain accents and authentic Vanta Ash wood accents.
However, what makes this AT4X special is not on the inside, but rather what is underneath. The AT4X features the first application of Multimmatic 40mm DSSV spool-valve dampers that increase off-roadability while improving overall ride as well. Engineers added unique springs to work in conjunction with the dampers for increased and improved wheel travel, front and rear electronically controlled locking differentials, unique skid plates and steel bumpers, off-road drive modes that enable one-pedal rock crawling, and 33-inch tall MT tires. We hope to get one of these off-road very soon to test out the capabilities provided by all of that new hardware.
While this compares in some respects with the Chevy Silverado ZR2, this AT4X is the more premium option and the price shows that, starting at over $80,000. However, you get a much more upscale interior in this GMC with some improved off-road specs thanks to the AEV front bumper which improves your approach angle. We loved our time driving the Chevy ZR2 while we were in LA, but we would love to get a chance to live with one of these AT4X models for a week and test it off-road on our home test grounds of Barnwell Mountain in Gilmer, Texas.
